The ultrasound technician is truly an amazing job. I am really amazed with my job and believe I really enjoy my work. I assist doctors in diagnosing and treating of medical sickness. I am usually a communicator between the doctors and the patients. I have worked with many health care technicians who were way older than I am and questioned them why didn’t they enhanced their study and look for a better paying job. Some of them said they get self satisfaction helping the sick and old people while many said they could upgrade their because of their family commitments and the upgrading courses like nursing are lengthy and could not afford the time.  They somehow made their point but I guess they did not browse or research on stuffs before making up their mind of not advancing their career. They could have still found some time flexible diplomas which paid a better salary than they are now.

Moreover, this job offers you a better financial luxury than many other office or clerical works which will help to be economically stable in life. The ultrasound technician job is almost recession proof. Despite having so many good things about this job it has some drawbacks like any other jobs in the world. To be an ultrasound technician first of all you need to spend a huge amount of money and time but after you are done with the course you will be paid a handsome amount of salary which makes it even. Even if you can’t afford the tuition fees you can look for some scholarship opportunities in the school.

The salary of this job usually varies in different states. Ultrasound technicians need to deal with different blood groups so he/she should be aware of that. Someone might as well faint seeing blood. If you think you can’t handle the blood you better try any other jobs. This job needs calm and cool person as you have to deal with different types of people all day long and some of them could be real grumpy. One of those cranky people could really damage your day. Standing for a long time is a part of this job that is why an ultrasound technician needs to be real strong and be physically fit. Sometimes you also have to sacrifice your holidays and might have to compromise with your family commitments since you have to work on calls.  I know for sure this job has difficulties within it but hey every job does have it.

How was I inspired?

There were many things that inspired me to be an ultrasound technician. Some factors like a good salary and dealing with many different people regularly really hit into mind to choose this field as my desired career. The fact that no two days are similar in this job also encouraged me to choose this job. Above all there is an incident that really made me to think ultrasound technologist as my career. This story goes like this.

My aunt Annie was pregnant by then and she wanted to know if her first baby was a girl or a boy. Therefore she went to her regular doctor for a checkup and also so ultrasound. The doctor had hired an ultrasound technician. The technician was not that friendly and she did all the ultrasound procedure in a hurry. That technician even debated with my aunt on the topic that she should not wish to find if the baby was a boy or a girl before it came to the world. My aunt had been there in the clinic with her and he asked the technician if it was a boy or a girl and the technician replied as it looks as if it was a girl and just saying that she left. My aunt and my grandfather were not sure on what it could be as the ultrasound technician gave a dubious answer. After that they showed the report to the doctor said it could be a boy. They were really confused and also disappointed since they didn’t know what it was. They eagerly wanted to know what it really was and were planning to start shopping accordingly. Aunt Annie was getting restless therefore my grandfather told her to get another ultrasound and find what if the baby was a boy or a girl. This time my granny followed Aunt Annie. They went in a different place this time for ultrasound. The technician there was really calm and helpful. She took a lot time and made sure that everything goes as we wanted. The ultrasound there was detailed and even a video was recorded. The technician was sure it was a girl. She even told that the baby was in good health. Hence, they were all happy and satisfied with the outcome. I have heard this story from Aunt Annie was really inspired by that ultrasound technician and wanted to be one like her. I am an ultrasound technician now and I am really satisfied with my job.

My day in the work usually starts at 8 AM in the morning and start preparing for the first round of patients by getting the machine ready and making all the paper works ready. After that I call in the patients and start working with their pregnancy one by one. Most of my patients want to know if their baby was a boy or a girl. After I am done with this patient I make notes about the patient on the basis of the video and the report is documented so that the doctor could see it later. After that I work with another patient and my day goes on until I am done for the day.

To be concise, I like my job and am satisfied with the benefits it offers. Yes of course, this job comes with some difficulties but if you take those as the challenges and try to solve it with a dedication and hard work you will be good. I enjoy seeing the real internal organs of the human body. I enjoy seeing the happiness in the eyes of those pregnant mothers when I tell them they baby is healthy and looks so beautiful.
