But all are similar on somewhat.  Some courses including equipment operating, some courses teach you how to decode the visual signals. Associate of Applied Science in Diagnostic Sonography/ Ultrasound – Many entry level jobs required students to have associate’s degree in ultrasound technician. This program includes classroom instruction, lab work and clinical externship to prepare students to work with ultrasound equipments and conduct examinations, learn how to work with team, communicate in medical terminology, and understand how to apply concept in a real life settings. Some courses may allow students to focus in one specific area, while other programs will cover all types of sonography such as obstetrics, abdominal and vascular sonography.

Bachelor of Science in Diagnostic Sonography/ Ultrasound –This program is actually not required for entry level job in ultrasound diagnostic field, but it can be great advantage to those who is pursuing a management position or advance study, and expertise in the specific field. Bachelors’ degree program includes general academics with major courses, and students should complete internship and clinical requirements. At this level student may allow choosing a specialty such as obstetrics, abdominal sonography, vascular sonography, breast sonography and many more.

Ultrasound technician are known as Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) after registered by American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS). Sonography program is endorsed by ARDMS. To get registered in ARDMS ultrasound technician must pass general physics, and instrumental examination in a specialty area such as neurosonography, obstetrics sonography and vascular sonography.
